Edmonton Oilers: Why They Should Not Rush Jesse Puljujärvi

Th Edmonton Oilers will have to focus on the blue line. I wrote an editorial earlier on how I believe the Oilers should approach the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft, contending that that Edmonton’s pursuit of defenders will force them to protect eight skaters and one goaltender, versus the more optimal approach of protecting seven forwards, three defensemen and a goaltender. With this in mind, Edmonton’s history with forwards have a significant role in their future.

Rushing Players

The Oilers have a history of high draft picks. Going back to the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, where Edmonton selected Sam Gagner seventh overall, the Oilers have developed a reputation where they are prone to rushing players into their lineup and the NHL.
