As we all know, the Edmonton Oilers did not have the greatest defense this past year. Let’s face it: it was awful. So awful in fact that the Oilers allowed multiple goals per game and not one defenseman held a positive +/- this season.
The biggest question surrounding this offseason, besides the one question what it takes to get the Oilers back to the playoffs is: who will step up and become the answer to the Oilers woes when it comes to protecting the blue line?
Peter Chiarelli helped a bit with that, signing Andrej Sekera and re-signing Justin Schultz, giving the defenseman another chance to prove his worth.
