The Edmonton Oilers off-season starts three games from now, which is scary to think about, but at the same time, pretty exciting. Though this year seems like just another year with no playoffs, there were a lot of takeaways: some core players are not performing with full effort and potential, the team needs size and defense to win and goaltending is no longer a huge issue.
It’s obvious that the team’s first need in the post-season is to build a strong defensive corps, due to the fact that this is the Oilers’ biggest problem. Chiarelli will need to work hard and analyze not just free agency, but also the trade route for strong defensemen.
