BUFFALO N.Y. – Home was close at hand, and with it, the luxury of some time away from the spotlight.
It will be a brief respite for Connor McDavid.
He will kick back for a few days in Newmarket, Ont,, squeeze in some high school classes, then head to the NHL draft where he will be selected first overall by the Edmonton Oilers.
Then his life will change.
“I’m really looking forward to having a little bit of time off,” he said Saturday afternoon after he had completed the fitness test at the NHL Scouting Combine.
