YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University senior Newlyn Stephenson (Gary, Ind.-Thea Bowman Leadership Academy) was named the Mid-American Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today, Jan. 21. This marks the first weekly honor in Stephenson's collegiate career, and the first weekly award for the track and field program this season.
At the Akron Quad Meet, Jan. 15, Stephenson set a school record in the weight throw with an incredible heave of 22.28m. The Gary, Ind. native's feat dethroned former Eagle Anthony Jones, who previously set the record in 2016 with a 21.
