CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University junior right-handed pitcher Brent Mattson (Canton, Mich.-Canton) was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Baseball Pitcher of the Week today, April 3. It is the first weekly award of his career, and the second straight for EMU after fellow junior Brad Allen (Manchester, Mich.-Manchester (Jackson College)) took home the honor last week.
Mattson tossed EMU's second complete-game shutout in the last five games in a 4-0 win over Butler University, Sunday, April 2. The righty went the distance, only surrendering two hits, both singles, while striking out six.
