LEXINGTON, Ky. (EMUEagles.com) – For the 13th consecutive season, the Eastern Michigan University volleyball program was recognized by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for academic excellence with the AVCA Team Academic Award. The Green and White ended the 2016-17 academic year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.343.
Overall, the honor marks the 17th time in the program's history that EMU has earned the award. The Eagles posted the highest GPA in the nation during the 1997-98 season.
A record of 822 college and high school teams were recognized by the AVCA in 2016-17, shattering the previous year's total of 762 and sets a new all-time high for this award, including a total of 145 NCAA Division I women's programs.
