OMAHA, Neb. (EMUEagles.com) - Junior backstroke specialist Cole Bateman (Hutchinson, Minn.-Hutchinson), current member of the Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team, continued to impress at the U.S. Olympic Trials, Thursday, June 30, competing in his last race of the week.

Placing second in his heat, Bateman just missed a semi-finals qualifying spot, posting an 18th-place finish in the 200 back with a converted time of 1:46.93. The Hutchinson, Minn. product has been designated as the second alternate due to his place. Building off of his sweep of the backstroke events at the 2016 Mid-American Conference Championships, Bateman's 18th-place finish today and his 33rd-place finish in the 100 back earlier this week have been the top finishes by an Eagle at the trials.
