The East Carolina University softball team took on Wagner College and Cleveland State University in its home opener and prevailed with a 7-6, and 9-8 victories to open up the season 2-0.
ECU played the second half of the doubleheader against the Vikings of Cleveland State. Sophomore pitcher Whitney Sanford started off the second game of the night for the Pirates by having the Vikings go down in order in the top of the first inning. Junior Logan Wood started the bottom of the first inning by hitting a home run over the left field fence giving the Pirates a 4-0 lead over the Vikings.
