The East Carolina University baseball team has started off conference play the right way as it completed the sweep against the University of Central Florida with a 6-5 victory on Sunday.
Getting wins early in conference play can make all the difference down the stretch. A team doesn’t want to be reliant on certain teams winning or losing to improve their positioning in the conference standings.
“It’s huge,” head coach Cliff Godwin said. “Especially against a really good opponent like UCF. The message before the game was 2-1 versus 3-0 is a big swing. Our first two years here as the coaching staff we sat in hotels and restaurants having swept the last weekend and said ‘hey if so and so loses, than we will have a tie for the conference championship’ and we want to win the conference championship.
