Entering play, ECU (19-19, 1-7 AAC) had not claimed a victory since March 22 when it defeated the University of Memphis (21-19, 3-6 AAC) by a score of 5-4 in eight innings. Since that date, the Pirates’ offense has not looked the same, having been shut out three times during this current losing streak. In addition to that, ECU’s offense has not scored more than three runs in a game since that victory over Memphis more than two weeks ago.
That lack of offense has come at a bad time for the Pirates as eight of their last nine games have been American Conference contests.
