ECU women's tennis falls to ranked Wake Forest

“I only have bad memories from that match, ” said freshman Celia Ruiz.

Ruiz plays the No. 1 spot for the Pirates and fought hard but fell short in the first two rounds of the single’s matches against Wake Forest’s Emma Davis. Davis was ranked No.14 in the country in 2013. The Deacons easily gained the double’s point leading 1-0 early on.

“I’m a freshman, I didn’t know Wake Forest was that good. I’m going into every single match thinking that we can win because I don't expect anything from anyone,” Ruiz states.

That mentality may have been what allowed her to keep persisting through the singles competition keeping it a close score in the beginning set at 5-7.
