ECU women’s basketball defeats the Hawks in season opener

The East Carolina University women’s basketball team took down the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in its season opener on Tuesday night with a final score of 84-69.

Senior Destiny Campbell scored a 3-pointer to start the game, setting the Pirates up for a 3-0 lead. The Pirates and the Hawks went back and forth in scoring until ECU’s driving force sophomore forward Tamia Hicks started blocking shots and became an active player in the first quarter.

The Pirates led most of the first quarter, but struggled transitioning defensively in the first half. The ball was making it to the rim, but the players weren’t finishing because they were constantly making contact with their opponents.
