An upset cut short, the East Carolina University Softball team had an unprecedented run in the AAC tournament, but ultimately due to heavy rain and other inclimate weather, the tourney was canceled and the title was given to the No. 1 seeded University of South Florida (40-17, 17-4 AAC).
ECU (23-31, 4-17 AAC) was the No. 7 seed in the tourney, and played the University of Tulsa (35-18, 16-5 AAC) in the first round. ECU, the lower ranked team in this matchup, faced Tulsa, the No. 2 seed, and defending AAC tournament champions.
The Pirates, only winning four out of their 21 total American Conference matchups, had the odds against them compared against heavily favored Tulsa.
