The much anticipated wait is over as East Carolina University has officially hired a new athletic director on Monday, Jon Gilbert, after going seven months without one. His first announcement as athletic director was the hiring of ECU’s new football coach, Mike Houston.
According to a press release from ECU Athletics, Gilbert has signed a five-year contract with ECU and will start his duties immediately. Gilbert’s first athletic director job came in 2017 with Southern Mississippi University and has previous experience working under current ECU athletics advisor Dave Hart, both at the University of Alabama in multiple roles throughout 17 years, as well as under Hart at the University of Tennessee as the associate athletic director from 2011-17.
