East Carolina University almost pulled off an upset, but came up short in its 20-13 loss to the University of South Florida. It was an emotionally charged game that ECU was playing in honor of “one Carolina,” making it more disappointing for Scottie Montgomery and the Pirates to lose.
The Pirates featured a mostly stellar defensive performance, but a lackluster offensive showing was a complete opposite of what troubled the Pirates in losses last season.
The ECU defense allowed 61 points to USF a year ago and 38 points two years ago, but the revamped Pirate defense held the Bulls to 20 points this season.
