ECU baseball falls as Monmouth records first triple play in Clark LeClair history

“That guy (Monmouth pitcher Ricky Dennis) has a 6.5 ERA and he comes in here and makes us look terrible,” East Carolina head coach Cliff Godwin said. “I am sorry that you guys had to watch this to be quite honest with you.”

Monmouth opened the game with a walk by Grant Lamberton who was eventually scored by a RBI-double from teammate Chris Gaetano. ECU’s third baseman Eric Tyler saved another run coming in however when he made an impressive throw that made first baseman Bryce Harman fall to the splits to record the out.

The Pirates went three up, three down in the first six innings of the game until the perfect-game-bid was broken when Dennis hit second baseman Charlie Yorgen with a pitch.
