COLUMN: ECU football's season opener leaves questions

While it’s easy to admire his dedication to his players, it would be hard for viewers not to be underwhelmed by ECU’s narrow victory. The team failed to silence questions about its quarterback play and showed uncharacteristic weakness on the defensive side of the ball.

No matter how well-coached Towson may be, its head coach Rob Ambrose winning the FCS Coach of the Year Award in 2012, the Pirates should have blown the Tigers out of the water. Had Terrell Richardson not made a head-rattling hit on fourth and 7, Towson very well may have snapped ECU’s 23-game winning streak against FCS opponents.
