Women’s Saber Goes Undefeated Through Day One

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Duke fencing team kicked off the first day at the Ohio State Invitational on a high note as both the men's and women's foil squads went undefeated Saturday in Columbus, Ohio.

The women defeated Denison (24-3), Northwestern (16-11) and Wayne State (15-2), but fell to Penn State (15-12) and Ohio State (15-12). On the men's side, the Blue Devils took down Wayne State twice (10-8, 11-6) and dropped a narrow decision to Ohio State (14-13) and Penn State (20-7).

Four Blue Devil women tallied nine or more victories as rookie Sarah Lurye registered 10 on the epee side while Christina Ferrari (foil), Zsofia Walter (saber) and Anneke Zegers (saber) all had nine wins.
