Duke’s victory over Notre Dame on Saturday night secured the 20th ACC Tournament championship in school history. That’s two more championships than North Carolina, the next-closest opponent in the official league title sweepstakes.
The Blue Devils have been winning ACC tournaments since 1960, Vic Bubas’ first year as head coach. The Devils won four times in the sixties under Bubas; in 1978 and 1980 under Bill Foster; twice each in the eighties and nineties under Mike Krzyzewski.
Then Duke got hot. Since 2000 Krzyzewski’s squads have won 10 of 18 ACC tournaments. During that span UNC won three times and no other school has been the ACC titleist more than once.
