GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke senior Rita Somogyi has been named the 2016-17 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Fencing Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Duke junior has been selected as the 2016-17 ACC Men’s Fencing Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Somogyi and Di Tella headline the All-ACC Academic Men’s and Women’s Fencing Teams, as announced today.
Somogyi finished second in the épée individual competition at the ACC Championship after going 11-4 during pool play and defeating Notre Dame’s Madeline Antekeier in the semifinals. A chemistry major from Portland, Oregon, she earned Fencer of the Week honors after leading her team at the Duke Meeting February.
