STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Duke University signee Erica Shepherd’s run for a second USGA U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship came to an end Wednesday as she dropped a 3&2 decision to Kelly Xu in the round of 64 of match play at SentryWorld in Stevens Point, Wis.
Shepherd struggled on the front nine committing four bogeys and Xu capitalized winning all four of those holes to take a 4UP lead. A native of Greenwood, Ind., Shepherd tried to make a late run by rolling in birdies on No. 13 and No. 14 to cut the lead to 2UP with four holes to play.
