Rowbury Qualifies for 1,500 Meter Final in Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO – Former Duke standout Shannon Rowbury advanced to the finals of the women’s 1,500 Sunday evening, while competing at the Olympic Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. With the qualification, Rowbury is set to compete in the third Olympic 1,500 meter final of her career.

Rowbury automatically qualified for Tuesday’s final after placing third in the first of two semifinal heats and clocking the sixth-fastest overall time of the round. The San Francisco, Calif., native crossed the finish with a time of 4:04.46 in the opening heat, behind only Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon of Kenya and Dawit Seyaum of Ethiopia.
