LIMA, Peru – Duke senior Margaux Paolino and the U.S. women’s national field hockey team secured a trip to the Pan American Games semifinals Sunday with a convincing 9-0 quarterfinal victory over Cuba.
Team USA reached the event quarterfinals after taking the top spot in Pool B. The squad shut out Mexico, 3-0, in its Pan American Games opener July 29 before notching a 4-2 comeback win over Chile July 31. Following an 8-0 shutout of host Peru, the U.S. recorded five goals in the third quarter alone Sunday to earn the win over Cuba.
