There are some things in amateurs sports that make sense, some that used to make sense and some that make absolutely no sense at all.

Put this in the latter category.

Albama resident Maori Davenport is a highly promising player who helped with gold with the USA Basketball U-18 team this summer.

The good folks there mistakenly sent her a stipend. When everyone realized the mistake, she sent the money back.

No harm no foul, right?

The Alabama High School Athletic Association has a limit of $250.00 which USA Basketball exceeded, sending a check for $857.
