ORLANDO, Fla. – Sophomore Kelly Chen battled through the Florida heat Tuesday and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Individual Championships at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
As the lone Blue Devil remaining in the singles competition, No. 21 Chen defeated 10th-ranked Anna Rogers of NC State (7-5, 4-6, 6-3).
Chen led in the first set 5-3 and lost two straight before pulling out two games to take the set. The Cerritos, Calif., native led the majority of the second set before dropping four straight games to force a third set.
