Duke historically has promotedAD’s from within when possible. Joe Alleva replaced Tom Butters who replaced Carl James who replaced Eddie Cameron.
Kevin White was a notable exception when he was hired to replace Alleva and there’s no question he did a phenomenal job.
But he announced his retirement earlier this year and after a careful search, Duke decided the best candidate was already on campus: Nina E. King, no relation to anyone on this site, was named the new athletic director on Wednesday.
She also worked with White at Notre Dame, so we assume he sees her as a protege and is pleased to see her replace him.
