Men's Golf Fifth After Round 1 in Hawai'i

WAILUA, Hawai’i -- A trio of Blue Devils each carded an opening-round 70 as the No. 2 Duke men’s golf team began play Thursday at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Wailua, Hawai'i.

Duke is in fifth place through 18 holes in the 20-team field with its three-under 285, just five strokes back of No. 24 BYU on a tightly-packed leaderboard. No. 20 Texas A&M is second (-7), No. 11 Arizona State (-6) is third and St. Mary’s (Calif.) is fourth (-4).

Senior Alex Smalley and juniors Chandler Eaton and Steven DiLisio each posted two-under scores of 70 on Thursday on the par-72, 6,991-yard Wailua Golf Club.
