DURHAM – Graduate Chad Knight singled up the middle to score Devin Obee and Jimmy Evans in the bottom of the eighth inning, as No. 7 Duke (27-10) defeated Gardner-Webb (13-23), 2-1, on Tuesday at Jack Coombs Field.
Sophomore right-hander Gabriel Nard was awarded the start, marking his first collegiate action as a starter. He worked three innings, allowing one hit and striking out a pair. Duke's bullpen kept the Blue Devils in the game all night long, as Jackson Emus worked three innings in relief with two hits allowed and one run scored.
