PINEHURST, N.C. – Duke University rising junior Gina Kim collected a 3&2 victory Thursday to open the match play portion of the North & South Women's Amateur, which is being played at Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, N.C.
A native of Chapel Hill, N.C., 16th-seeded Kim faced 17th-seeded Allysha Mae Mateo and posted a 3&2 victory to advance to the round of 16. Kim will next face top-seeded Ivy Shepherd on Friday, July 17 at 7 a.m.
After suffering a bogey to open the round, Kim fell behind early. She trailed through five holes, before starting to heat up.
