Kim Cards Lowest Round by Amateur in Open History

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Duke women’s golf made waves in the opening round of the 2019 U.S. Women’s Open led by Blue Devil rising sophomore Gina Kim with the lowest round by an amateur in the history of the tournament.

Kim, a native of Chapel Hill, N.C., posted six birdies and an eagle on her way to firing a five-under-par, 66, at the Country Club of Charleston. Coming off helping lead Duke to the NCAA Championship a week ago, Kim is only one shot off the leader, Mamiko Higa, who turned in a six-under-par, 65.
