Incoming Freshman Drafted in First Round

LOS ANGELES – Duke baseball signee Cole Young was selected with the 21st overall pick by the Seattle Mariners in the 2022 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Sunday night.

Young, a shortstop from Wexford, Pa., who attended North Allegheny High School, entered with the draft with a top-25 draft ranking from MLB.com and went in the first round to the Mariners.

"I am thrilled for Cole as he becomes the fourth Duke signee to go in the first round over the last six years," said Duke head coach Chris Pollard.
