INDONESIA — Duke University women’s basketball freshman Miela Goodchild and her Australia squad opened the FIBA U18 Women’s Asian Championship Sunday in India with a 96-28 victory over Indonesia.
Goodchild, who is from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, was one of five double-figure scorers for Australia, who jumped out to a 23-2 lead in the first quarter. In a little over 20 minutes, Goodchild totaled 10 points, six rebounds, four assists, three steals and one blocked shot.
Australia will return to action Monday against Chinese Taipei and then face Korea on Tuesday, Oct. 30 to close out the group phase.
