BANDON, Ore. -- Duke men's golf senior Evan Katz is one of 64 headed to Match Play at the 120th U.S. Amateur Championship, after surviving 36 holes of stroke play and a frantic 18-person playoff on Wednesday morning at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort on Oregon's Pacific coast.
The starting field of 263 players, which also included Katz's classmate Adrien Pendaries, incoming freshman Ian Siebers and former Blue Devil Yarik Merkulov, was whittled down to the top 64 and ties following 36 holes of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday.
