Well that didn’t take long: Duke has told Gail Goestenkors that she will not get interviewed for the women’s head coaching job.
Didn’t take long either - Joanne P. McCallie stepped down on Friday and Goestenkors was told by Friday that Duke didn’t want to look back in order to move ahead.
When you look at it like that it makes pretty good sense, but it doesn’t lessen the sting for Goestenkors, who found out that, at least in this case UNC grad Thomas Wolfe was right: you can’t go home again.
A lot of people wanted her back though, including former players Georgia Schweitzer Beasley and Rochelle Parent, both of whom are still in Durham.
