Duke basketball: Blue Devils add tantalizing five-star to targets

On Monday, Sandy Creek (Ga.) five-star Jabari Smith Jr. became the latest prospect to attract the Duke basketball staff to his high school, per 247Sports’ John Watson. And the 6-foot-9, 190-pound power forward, who ranks No. 5 on the 2021 Composite, is not the first from his bloodline to wear the “potential megastar” tag.

Sure, Smith’s namesake was a force down low for LSU (1998-00) and a second-round pick who lasted five years in the league. But his dad’s cousin is the guy who drew enough hype in high school to fool Michael Jordan into taking him first overall at the 2001 NBA Draft — yes, Kwame Brown, the 6-foot-11 center who was ill-prepared for the big show and later represented one of the top arguments for the one-and-done rule.
