Longtime readers know of my reluctance to draw too many conclusions from an intrasquad game, like the Countdown to Crazies scrimmage tonight. It’s all very zero-sum. Every Duke steal is a Duke turnover, every Duke shot block a Duke shot blocked.
You get the drift.
Still, there is some useful information to be gleaned from this sort of thing. It’s a chance to get an inkling of where the team is at, a snapshot of a moment in time. And a chance to see the freshmen in something resembling a real game, see them in a context other than defense-optional all-star games or edited video highlights in which no one ever misses a shot.
