DURHAM – Duke baseball graduate student Richard Brereton has signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Cubs to take the next step in his career.
Brereton inked a contract following the 2021 MLB Draft, where five Blue Devils were selected to tie the third most selections in program history. Brereton joins Duke teammate Peter Matt as a rookie in the Cubs organization as he was taken in the 10th round.
The Darien, Conn., native concluded his career at Duke in the 2021 season after playing at Emory form 2017-20.
