DURHAM, N.C. – Blue Devils Morgan Bitting and Lydia Smeltz have been honored as 2017 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I Scholars of Distinction, as released Thursday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
The Division I Scholars of Distinction program recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year. Bitting and Smeltz were among the 138 student-athletes representing 61 schools who were honored.
A junior majoring in sociology, Bitting started all 21 contests in the midfield during the Blue Devils’ 2017 campaign.
