DURHAM, N.C. – Redshirt junior Nicolas Alvarez returned to his home country this week to take part in the Peru F1 Futures event, held in Lima, Peru. In a standout performance, Alvarez earned four singles victories and advanced to the championship match.
In the opening round, Alvarez defeated Antonio Pruner Neto 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the Round of 16, where he upset the draw's No. 3 seed Joao Pedro Sorgi 6-1, 6-2. Sorgi owns a current ATP singles ranking of No. 342 and reached as high as No. 251 earlier this year.
