If you want to pick an ACC darkhorse – not necessarily for first place but to exceed expecations – you could do a lot worse than Virginia Tech.
Last season, in the debut season of Buzz Williams, the Hokies didn’t win a lot, but they entered the season with a decimated roster and were…competitive.
Virginia Tech finished 11-22 and took their lumps. However, they also lost to Syracuse 68-66, Virginia by just 50-47, Pitt by just three in overtime, Syracuse by just two again, and of course took Duke to overtime before losing to the eventual national champs 91-86 – and that with no real big man.
