Box Score AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State Cyclones came out on top in a high-scoring game with the Drake University softball team on Wednesday at Cyclone Sports Complex. Iowa State (19-26) defeated Drake (24-22) by a score of 15-12 as the teams split the season series.
The Bulldogs trailed 15-9 going into their final at-bat, but sophomore Nicole Newman (Madison, Wis.) blasted a pinch-hit, three-run home run to pull within three runs at 15-12. It was the first career home run for Newman. Sophomore Tasha Alexander (Eddyville, Iowa) followed with a double, but was stranded as fellow sophomore Kelsey Wright's (Olathe, Kan.
