EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Drake University softball team edged Evansville, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon to complete the series sweep in the opening weekend of Missouri Valley Conference play.
(Olathe, Kan.), who went 2-for-3 at the plate, drove in the deciding run with a RBI single in the fourth inning after Evansville (11-12, 0-3 MVC) had tied the game at 2-2 in the previous inning.
Starting pitcher Nicole Newman (Madison, Wis.) was untouchable in the circle after Wright's big hit as she didn't allow a single Purple Aces hitter to reach base in the final four innings.
