For the second time this season, Drake University guard Roman Penn has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Monday, Jan. 13, afternoon.
Penn, a native of Calumet City, Ind., averaged 11.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 8.5 assists on the week while shooting 45.5 percent from the field.
Playing in front of friends and family in Northwestern Indiana at Valparaiso, he scored 21 points, one shy of a career high, on 9-of-15 shooting with a season-high eight rebounds and seven assists. That performance was just the ninth by a Bulldog of 20 or more points, five or more rebounds and five or more assists since 2011.
