Metivier Smashes School Record at NCAA West Preliminary Round

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Malik Metivier (Toronto, Ontario) broke a 7-year-old Drake University school record in the men's 400-meter hurdles in 50.16 at the NCAA Track & Field West Preliminary Round Thursday evening. Metivier's time was the third-fastest time at the NCAA West Preliminary to advance him to Friday's quarterfinal round with the opportunity to qualify for next month's NCAA Championship.

His performance is also the 12th fastest in the nation this season and bettered his previous personal best by nearly a full second.

Metivier ran in the sixth and final heat of the first round and finished second in his heat behind Rai Benjamin of USC's time of 50.
