MILWAUKEE, Wis. – After a lengthy weather delay prior to the kickoff of Thursday's tilt, the Drake men's soccer team (0-1-0) started their 2023 season with a thrilling road match at Marquette of the Big East Conference (1-0-0). The host Golden Eagles delivered a pair of late goals to regain a swaying lead and secure the season-opening decision.
Marquette controlled much of the first half and drew first blood in the 19th minute when Edrey Caceres fired a penalty kick goal past Drake goalkeeper Kevin Qi. The Golden Eagles took their 1-0 lead into the half.
