TULSA, Okla. - Drake University senior Vinnie Gillespie (Stirling, Scotland) advanced to the third round of the ITA Central Regional on the first day of competition Thursday at Tulsa's Case Tennis Center.
Four other Bulldogs won their first-round matches before falling in the second round of action at the tournament.
Gillespie received a first-round bye by virtue of being the No. 12 seed in the field and defeated Oklahoma's Taine Bernhard, 6-2, 6-2 to advance this his third-round match Friday at 2 p.m. against Wichita State's Haru Inoue.
Gillespie will also pair with Barny Thorold (Loughborough, England) in doubles action Friday as the pair received a first-round bye.
