EUGENE, Ore. - All-America status was one of the few honors and awards that had eluded Drake University senior Reed Fischer (Minnetonka, Minn.) heading into the first day of the NCAA Track & Field Championships. However, after 25 laps around the oval at Oregon's historic Hayward Field, Fischer added the title of All-American to his resume with a ninth-place finish in the 10,000 meters.
Fischer moved into the lead pack of the 24-runner field after the first 2,000 meters and held that position to finish in 29:10.76. He was less than two-tenths of a second out of eighth place and just nine seconds off the winning pace set by Tulsa's Mark Scott as the top 10 finishers all crossed the line within 10 seconds of each other.
