CARTER LAKE, Iowa – The Drake University rowing team was edged by Creighton on Saturday afternoon on Carter Lake. The annual spring regatta between the two rivals was moved up one day in anticipation of inclement weather forecasted for Sunday.
The local rivals competed in four different races, varsity 4+, 2nd varsity 4+, varsity 8+ and 2nd varsity 8+, on a 2,000-meter course on Carter Lake. The 2nd varsity 4+ race did not count in the final determination of the winner. The Bulldogs started the day with a victory in the varsity 4+ race, but the Bluejays were triumphant in the varsity 8+, 2nd varsity 8+ and the exhibition 2nd varsity 4+ races and earned the regatta win.
