Drake University sophomore Busiwa Asinga advanced out of the first round of the women's 400-meter hurdles Thursday evening at the NCAA West Region Prelim in College Station, Texas.
Asinga finished third in her heat of the event to automatically qualify for Saturday's quarterfinals. She finished in 58.91 which ended up being the 16th fastest time of the day in the event and 0.84 seconds off her personal best in the event. She will line up Saturday at 7:55 p.m. to compete for one of the 12 spots to qualify for next month's NCAA Championships.
